And All the World Wondered After the Beast ?

“And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast (ref: Daniel 7:16-25) rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns; and upon his heads the name of blasphemy . . .    ref: John 10:33 and Revelation 17:7-18

And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death . . . and the deadly wound was healed. And all the world wondered after the beast . . . and all that dwell upon the earth shall worship (serve and obey) him, whose names are not written in the book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world . . . . If any man have an ear, let him hear !”   Revelation 13:1-10, 16-18

Questions on Music ?

hymns 2Comparing Hymns and Contemporary Worship Songs

As most of you know, I believe wholeheartedly that a healthy church chooses congregational songs with theologically rich text and well-crafted, singable music. This is part one of a three part discussion on some of the differences between hymnody and contemporary worship songs.

The Problem

Protestant denominations have been singing people since the days of the Reformation. Their hymns represented the mettle and fortitude they displayed in breaking away from the religious establishment (Roman Catholic church), and forging ahead in their new faith traditions. The American versions of these faith traditions initially carried on the mantle of hymnody, with much content being shared between denominational lines. In many churches today, hymns and hymnals remain, either as a vital piece of corporate worship practices or as a sentimental nod to the past.

In other churches, including churches in most if not all major denominations, there has been a decided shift . . . .

Six Days in Babylon ?

And I heard another Voice from heaven, saying . . . . Come out of her My people, that ye be not partakers of her sins (evil deeds), and that ye receive not of her plagues. For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities . . . !”   Revelation 18:1-4 and ref: Jeremiah 31:31-34

O that thou hadst hearkened to My Commandments ! . . . for the Words that I speak unto you, they are Spirit, and they are Life ! . . . . then had thy peace (shalom) been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea ! . . . .

Go ye forth out of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans (astrologers – those who look to the stars for their help). With the voice of singing (joy) declare ye, and tell this . . . utter it even to the end of the world . . . .    Say ye, The LORD hath redeemed His servant Jacob !”     Isaiah 48:18-22 & John 6:63

“Then He answered and spake unto me, saying . . . . This is the Word of the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) unto Zerubbabel (those who flow, come out of Babel), saying . . . . Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the LORD of hosts . . .     Who art thou, O great mountain (obstacle)?  before Zerubabbel, thou shalt become a plain . . . !”     Zechariah 4:6-7

The Unconquerable Life !

“In Him was Life and the Life was the Light of men. And the Light shineth in the darkness and the darkness comprehended (apprehended) it not !” John 1:4-5

Christ, the Light of the world, dwelling in the hearts (sanctuary) of His followers, constitutes them the Light of the world. Their light comes not from themselves but from Christ, who dwells in them. Their life is not from themselves, but it is the life of Christ manifest in their mortal flesh.

Christ in you, the Hope of glory !” Colossians 1:27. This is what it is
to live “a Christian life.” Continue reading

Liberty of Conscience Threatened ?

“The line of distinction between professing Christians and the ungodly is now hardly distinguishable. Church-members love what the world loves, and are ready to join with them; and Satan determines to unite them in one body and thus strengthen his cause by sweeping all into the ranks of Spiritualism.

Papists (the Roman Church) who boast of miracles as a certain mark of the true church, will be readily deceived by this wonder-working power; and Protestants, having cast away the shield of Truth . . . Thy Word is Truth ! . . . (John 17:17), will also be deluded. Papists, Protestants, and worldlings will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world, and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium.

. . . Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of Spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. Protestantism will yet stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of Spiritualism (the religions of the east); she will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, our country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience.” 4SP 405-406
