Showers of Blessing . . . why do we expect so little ?

“Therefore . . . being by the right hand of God exalted (Ephesians 1:18-21), and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit . . . . He hath shed forth (gushed out as a fountain, poured forth) this, which ye now see and hear . . .

Then said Peter unto them . . . Repent, and be baptized* (Acts 19:1-8) every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins . . . and ye shall receive the gift* (something given freely out of great love for the receiver) of the Holy Spirit . . .      For the Promise is unto you, and to your children . . . and to all that are afar off (yet in the outer court – Ephesians 2:13-14), even as many as the LORD our God shall call . . . !”     Acts 2:33-39

Quote –      “The church is not now the separate and peculiar people she was when the fires of persecution were kindled against her. How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed!     I saw that if the church had always retained her peculiar, holy character, the power of the Holy Spirit which was imparted to the disciples would still be with her. The sick would be healed, devils would be rebuked and cast out, and she would be mighty and a terror to her enemies.”   – Early Writings, p.227

note:   the character and righteousness (innocence, holiness and perfection)  of Christ Jesus is freely ours, if we will through surrender and living (active) faith appropriate it as our very own !

Quote –      “In order to be candidates for heaven we must meet the requirement of the law: “Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” (Luke 10:27).

We can do this only* as we grasp by faith the righteousness of Christ. By beholding Jesus (Isaiah 45:22-25) we receive a living, expanding principle in the heart, and the Holy Spirit carries on the work, and the believer advances from grace to grace, from strength to greater strength, from character to more perfect character.

He conforms to the image of Christ, until in spiritual growth he attains unto the measure of the full stature in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:7-8 and 4:12-13). Thus Christ makes an end of the curse of sin (Daniel 9:24), and sets the believing soul free from its action and effect !

Christ alone is able to do this, for “in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest [of our profession], in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation* for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted” (Hebrews 2:17-18).

Reconciliation means that every barrier between the soul and God is removed, and that the sinner realizes what the pardoning love of God means. By reason of the sacrifice made by Christ for fallen men, God can justly pardon the transgressor (Romans 3:24-26) who accepts the merits* [worthiness] of Christ. Christ was the channel through which the mercy, love, and righteousness might flow from the heart of God to the heart of the sinner. “He is faithful and He is (I Am) just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness . . . !” I John 1:9
– 1 Selected Messages, p.395

note:     “Jesus is the only hope of the soul . . . . The moment the sinner lays hold of Christ by faith, that moment his sins are no longer upon him. Christ stands in the sinner’s place, and declares, “I have borne his guilt, I have been punished for his transgressions, I have taken his sins, and put My righteousness upon him.”
ref:   Isaiah 53:4-12, II Corinthians 5:21 and I Peter 1:24

In Christ the sinner stands guiltless before the law. But how vain is the hope of entering heaven if we have no present faith in Christ, no delight in spiritual things, no joy in anticipating the joys of heaven.  . . . The Lord commands . . . and every command is a promise (Education, p.126), “Be ye holy, for I Am Holy.”

The Christian’s constant endeavour should be to come into perfect conformity to the Life of Christ (Romans 8:2-4 and II Corinthians 4:10-11); we must look away from the darkness (doubt and fear), and face the Light (the unfailing assurance and power of God’s Word).      Do not, by your attitude of unbelief, charge God with partiality or unfaithfulness. Your doubt casts reflections upon the verity of His promises. When in living faith you come to Jesus, and become doers of His Word, you will taste and see that the Lord is good. You will say to all, “By His stripes we are healed.” You will think of Jesus, you will talk of Jesus, as One Who is willing and able* (full of power) to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him.

If you believe in Christ as your Saviour, His perfect obedience is set to your account. You are pardoned as you look to Jesus as your Substitute and Surety (guarantee of a completed work) . The promise of God is, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and He is Just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us (Ezekiel 36:22-36) from all unrighteousness.”                                                                                                                 – Present Truth, January 30, 1890

In the prophecy of Daniel it was recorded of Christ that He shall “make reconciliation for iniquity, and . . . bring in everlasting righteousness” (Daniel 9:24). Every soul may say: “By His perfect obedience He has satisfied the claims of the law (for the law of God – Deity demands nothing less than perfect holiness, James 2:10 and Galatians 3:10-14) , and my only hope is found in looking to Him as my Substitute and Surety, Who obeyed the law perfectly for me.

By faith in His merits* (worthiness) I am free* from (Galatians 3:22 and 5:1-4 and 4:21-29) the condemnation of the law. He clothes me with His righteousness, which answers all the demands of the law. I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10 and Ephesians 1:6) Who brings in everlasting righteousness. He presents me to God in the spotless garment of which no thread was woven by any human agent. All is of Christ, and all the glory, honor, and majesty are to be given to the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world !”
– 1 Selected Messages, p.395-396

“Just prior to His leaving His disciples for the heavenly courts, Jesus encouraged them with the Promise of the Holy Spirit. This promise belongs as much to us as it did to them, and yet how rarely it is presented before the people, and its reception spoken of in the church. In consequence of this silence upon this most important theme, what promise do we know less about by its practical fulfillment than this rich promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit, whereby efficiency is to be given to all our spiritual labor?

     The Promise of the Holy Spirit is casually brought into our discourses, is incidentally touched upon, and that is all. Prophecies have been dwelt upon, doctrines have been expounded; but that which is essential to the church in order that they may grow in spiritual strength and efficiency, in order that the preaching may carry conviction with it, and souls be converted to God, has been largely left out of ministerial effort. This subject has been set aside, as if some time in the future would be given to its consideration. Other blessings and privileges have been presented before the people until a desire has been awakened in the church for the attainment of the Blessing promised of God . . .      But the impression concerning the Holy Spirit has been that this gift is not for the church now, but that at some time in the future it would be necessary for the church to receive it.  {TM 174.1}

All Other Blessings Found in One . . .

This promised Blessing, if claimed by faith (Galatians 3:14), would bring all other blessings in its train, and it is to be given liberally to the people of God. Through the cunning devices of the enemy the minds of God’s people seem to be incapable of comprehending and appropriating the promises of God. They seem to think that only the scantiest showers of grace are to fall upon the thirsty soul.      The people of God have accustomed themselves to think that they must rely upon their own efforts, that little help is to be received from heaven; and the result is that they have little Light to communicate to other souls who are dying in error and darkness.

The church has long been contented with little of the Blessing (Spirit-filled promises, John 6:63) of God; they have not felt the need of reaching up to the exalted privileges purchased for them at infinite cost. Their spiritual strength has been feeble, their experience of a dwarfed and crippled character, and they are disqualified for the work the Lord would have them to do (Mark 16:15-20). They are not able to present the great and glorious Truths (unfailing verity) of God’s Holy Word that would convict and convert souls through the agency of the Holy Spirit.

The power of God awaits their demand and reception. A harvest of joy will be reaped by those who sow the holy seeds of Truth. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him !” – Testimonies to Ministers, p.174

The Lineage of Majesty !

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called . . . . Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace . . . . THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS !”
Isaiah 9:6-7 and Jeremiah 23:5-6

Blood on the Doorposts – The power of Christ to restore marriages, families and homes !

“Our condition through sin is unnatural, and the power that restores us must be Supernatural, else it has no value . . . .

There is but One Power that can break the hold of evil from the hearts of men, and that is the power* of God (Theos – Deity, Divinity) in Jesus Christ. Only through the blood (Life – Leviticus 17:11) of the Crucified One is there cleansing from sin. His grace* (G5485 – Divine Influence) alone can enable us to resist and subdue the tendencies of our fallen nature . . . !”     – Ministry of Healing, p.428

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious (blood bought) promises, that by these promises, we might be made partakers of the Divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in this world  . . . !”   II Peter 1:4

Abide in Me (The Word of God), and if My Words . . . which are Spirit and Life . . . abide in you, you shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done for you !”   John 15:7

Behold, I stand at the door of your heart and knock, if any man opens the door (surrenders their will) I will come into him, and sup with him, and he with Me !”
Revelation 3:20

Striving for the Mastery – The Crown of Eternal Life !

Moses 2    “Transgression of physical law is transgression of the moral law; for God is as truly the Author of physical laws as He is the Author of the moral law. His law (Luke 10:25-28) is written with His Own finger upon every nerve, every muscle, every faculty, which has been entrusted to man . . .”

And every man that striveth for the mastery, is temperate (exercises self-control in both diet and chastity) in all things . . . Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown (one that perishes), but we an incorruptible . . . !”
I Corinthians 9:24-27

In the preparation of a people for the Lord’s second coming, a great work is to be accomplished through the promulgation (teaching and instruction) of health principles.
The people are to be instructed in regard to the needs of the physical organism and the value of healthful living as taught in the Scriptures, that the bodies which God has created may be presented to Him a living sacrifice, fitted to render Him acceptable service . . . Continue reading

Behold, I Stand at the Door and Knock . . . !

Jesus knocking at the door 1     “No man can of himself cast out the evil throng that have taken possession of the heart. Only Christ can cleanse the soul temple . . . but He will not force and entrance. He come not into the heart as to the temple of old; but He says . . .

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My Voice, and opens the door (yields, surrenders their will), I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me . . . !”     Revelation 3:20

Remember the Sabbath to Keep it Holy –

7th day 2The Sabbath: How Do We Know Which Day It Is ?

article originally published in Signs of the Times,
September 22, 2015
written by: Ed Dickerson

I took a tour of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, USA, a while back, and my guide said that “the Declaration of Independence was signed in this room on July 4, 1776.” But he went on to explain that only one part of that statement was true. I love history, so standing merely a metre from where Thomas Jefferson had been seated in Independence Hall filled me with awe, and I thought perhaps I had misunderstood the man’s words. “It was not signed that day,” the guide said. “There was a war going on; they had more important things to deal with.”

On July 2 (and not the fourth), Congress unanimously approved the Declaration of Independence. But the vote was for a much altered document, with multiple passages crossed out, some words added and numerous corrections. It was definitely not suitable for framing or public display. The final draft was presented to Congress on July 4, which they then ratified as correct. On July 19, Congress ordered final “engrossed” copy, that is, one written in a large, clear hand. That’s the one on display at the National Archives, but this final copy wasn’t actually signed until August 2.

Discovering that the signing of the Declaration of Independence didn’t take place on July 4, 1776, got me thinking about dates, days and, being a pastor, the Sabbath.

Light to a World in Darkness ?

“For (but) as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) . . . !”     Numbers 14:21

“I was given instruction that as we approach the end, there will be large gatherings in our cities, as there has recently been in St. Louis, and that preparations must be made to present the Truth (the verity of God’s Word – John 17:17) at these gatherings !

When Christ was upon this earth, He took advantage of such opportunities. Wherever a large number of people was gathered for any purpose, His Voice was heard, clear and distinct, giving His message. And as a result, after His crucifixion and ascension, thousands were converted in a day. The seed sown by Christ sank deep into hearts, and germinated, and when the disciples received the gift of the Holy Spirit, the harvest was gathered in.
The disciples went forth and preached the Word everywhere with such power that fear fell upon their opposers, and they dared not do that which they would have done had not the evidence been so plain that God was working . . .

We should improve every such opportunity as that presented by the St. Louis Fair. At all such gatherings there should be present men whom God can use. Leaflets containing the Light of present Truth should be scattered among the people like the leaves of autumn. To many who attend these gatherings these leaflets would be as the leaves of the Tree of Life, which are for the healing of the nations.
ref: Isaiah 12:1-6 and John 4:7-14

I send you this, my brethren, that you may give it to others. Those who go forth to proclaim the Truth shall be blessed by Him Who has given them the burden of proclaiming this Truth. . . .
     The time has come when, as never before, Seventh-day Adventists are to arise and shine, because their Light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon them.–Letter 296, 1904.  {Evangelism, p.36}

The Omega Apostasy – Meet It !

And Satan said unto the woman . . . . Yea, hath God really said ?
ye shall not surely die; for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened (enlightened), and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil . . .”   Genesis 3:1-5

But I say unto you, “he (Satan) was a murder from the beginning, and abode not in the Truth (John 17:17), because there is no Truth in him . . . When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father (source) of it . . . !”   John 8:44

” Be not deceived; many will depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. We have now before us the alpha of this danger. The omega will be of a most startling nature . . . .”       – 1 Selected Messages, p.197

“Representations had been shown me that some danger was approaching, and that I must prepare for it. I must write out the things God had given me in order to prepare for it . . . I did not read Living Temple, though I had it in my library. At last my son said to me, “Mother, you ought to read at least some parts of the book, that you may see whether they are in harmony with the light that God has given you.” He sat down beside me, and we read the paragraphs to which he referred.

When we had finished I turned to him and said, “These are the very sentiments against which I was bidden to speak in warning at the very beginning of my public work. When I first left the State of Maine, it was to go through Vermont and Massachusetts, to bear a testimony against these sentiments. Living Temple contains the Alpha of these theories. The Omega would follow in a little while. I tremble for our people. These beautiful representations are similar to the temptation that the enemy brought to Adam and Eve in Eden.”  1 SAT 341

The Exodus Movie – Re-examined ?

“By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter . . . . Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God (Elohim – the Mighty One), than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ as greater riches than the treasures in Egypt . . . . for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward !

By faith, he forsook Egypt . . . and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God . . .  not fearing the wrath of the king . . . for God hath not given unto us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love (self-sacrifice), and of a sound mind . . . . For He endured, as seeing Him that is invisible !       ref: Romans 10:17 & II Timothy 1:7

Through faith (in Jehovah’s promise of a Lamb slain from the foundation of the world), he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of blood . . . lest He that destroyed the first born of Egypt (Matthew 10:28) should touch them. And by faith they (the children of Abraham) passed through the Red Sea as by dry land . . . . which the Egyptians assaying (attempting) to do were drowned . . .

And what more shall I say?
For the time would fail me to tell of Gideon, and Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and of Samuel, and the prophets . . . . who through faith, subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, and stopped the mouths of lions . . . . Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with (surrounded by) so great a cloud of witness of God’s unfailing love and power . . . Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience (Hebrews 10:23) the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the Author and the Finisher of our faith . . . . For He is faithful that hath promised . . . !”   Hebrews 11:23-40, 12:14, 11:11 & ref: II Corinthians 1:20

Moses had been learning much that he must unlearn. The influences that had surrounded him in Egypt . . . .

God’s Law & the Glad Tidings of Christ ?

Bible 4A Personal Faith in Christ Our Greatest Need

“For the law of the Spirit of (and) Life in Christ Jesus, hath made me free from the law of sin and death . . . . For what the Law could not do, in that (because) it was weak through the flesh, God sending His Own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and in exchange for sin, condemned sin in the flesh . . . .

That the righteousness of the Law (character of God) might be filled full in us, who walk (live) not after (by) the flesh, but after (by) the Spirit !”     Romans 8:2-4

The thought that the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us, not because of any merit on our part, but as a free gift from God, is a precious thought . . . . The enemy of God and man is not willing that this Truth should be clearly presented; for he knows that if the people receive it fully, his power will be broken.
