Showers of Blessing . . . why do we expect so little ?

“Therefore . . . being by the right hand of God exalted (Ephesians 1:18-21), and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit . . . . He hath shed forth (gushed out as a fountain, poured forth) this, which ye now see and hear . . .

Then said Peter unto them . . . Repent, and be baptized* (Acts 19:1-8) every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins . . . and ye shall receive the gift* (something given freely out of great love for the receiver) of the Holy Spirit . . .      For the Promise is unto you, and to your children . . . and to all that are afar off (yet in the outer court – Ephesians 2:13-14), even as many as the LORD our God shall call . . . !”     Acts 2:33-39

Quote –      “The church is not now the separate and peculiar people she was when the fires of persecution were kindled against her. How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed!     I saw that if the church had always retained her peculiar, holy character, the power of the Holy Spirit which was imparted to the disciples would still be with her. The sick would be healed, devils would be rebuked and cast out, and she would be mighty and a terror to her enemies.”   – Early Writings, p.227

note:   the character and righteousness (innocence, holiness and perfection)  of Christ Jesus is freely ours, if we will through surrender and living (active) faith appropriate it as our very own !

Quote –      “In order to be candidates for heaven we must meet the requirement of the law: “Thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.” (Luke 10:27).

We can do this only* as we grasp by faith the righteousness of Christ. By beholding Jesus (Isaiah 45:22-25) we receive a living, expanding principle in the heart, and the Holy Spirit carries on the work, and the believer advances from grace to grace, from strength to greater strength, from character to more perfect character.

He conforms to the image of Christ, until in spiritual growth he attains unto the measure of the full stature in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:7-8 and 4:12-13). Thus Christ makes an end of the curse of sin (Daniel 9:24), and sets the believing soul free from its action and effect !

Christ alone is able to do this, for “in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest [of our profession], in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation* for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted” (Hebrews 2:17-18).

Reconciliation means that every barrier between the soul and God is removed, and that the sinner realizes what the pardoning love of God means. By reason of the sacrifice made by Christ for fallen men, God can justly pardon the transgressor (Romans 3:24-26) who accepts the merits* [worthiness] of Christ. Christ was the channel through which the mercy, love, and righteousness might flow from the heart of God to the heart of the sinner. “He is faithful and He is (I Am) just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness . . . !” I John 1:9
– 1 Selected Messages, p.395

note:     “Jesus is the only hope of the soul . . . . The moment the sinner lays hold of Christ by faith, that moment his sins are no longer upon him. Christ stands in the sinner’s place, and declares, “I have borne his guilt, I have been punished for his transgressions, I have taken his sins, and put My righteousness upon him.”
ref:   Isaiah 53:4-12, II Corinthians 5:21 and I Peter 1:24

In Christ the sinner stands guiltless before the law. But how vain is the hope of entering heaven if we have no present faith in Christ, no delight in spiritual things, no joy in anticipating the joys of heaven.  . . . The Lord commands . . . and every command is a promise (Education, p.126), “Be ye holy, for I Am Holy.”

The Christian’s constant endeavour should be to come into perfect conformity to the Life of Christ (Romans 8:2-4 and II Corinthians 4:10-11); we must look away from the darkness (doubt and fear), and face the Light (the unfailing assurance and power of God’s Word).      Do not, by your attitude of unbelief, charge God with partiality or unfaithfulness. Your doubt casts reflections upon the verity of His promises. When in living faith you come to Jesus, and become doers of His Word, you will taste and see that the Lord is good. You will say to all, “By His stripes we are healed.” You will think of Jesus, you will talk of Jesus, as One Who is willing and able* (full of power) to save to the uttermost all that come unto God by Him.

If you believe in Christ as your Saviour, His perfect obedience is set to your account. You are pardoned as you look to Jesus as your Substitute and Surety (guarantee of a completed work) . The promise of God is, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and He is Just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us (Ezekiel 36:22-36) from all unrighteousness.”                                                                                                                 – Present Truth, January 30, 1890

In the prophecy of Daniel it was recorded of Christ that He shall “make reconciliation for iniquity, and . . . bring in everlasting righteousness” (Daniel 9:24). Every soul may say: “By His perfect obedience He has satisfied the claims of the law (for the law of God – Deity demands nothing less than perfect holiness, James 2:10 and Galatians 3:10-14) , and my only hope is found in looking to Him as my Substitute and Surety, Who obeyed the law perfectly for me.

By faith in His merits* (worthiness) I am free* from (Galatians 3:22 and 5:1-4 and 4:21-29) the condemnation of the law. He clothes me with His righteousness, which answers all the demands of the law. I am complete in Him (Colossians 2:10 and Ephesians 1:6) Who brings in everlasting righteousness. He presents me to God in the spotless garment of which no thread was woven by any human agent. All is of Christ, and all the glory, honor, and majesty are to be given to the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sins of the world !”
– 1 Selected Messages, p.395-396

“Just prior to His leaving His disciples for the heavenly courts, Jesus encouraged them with the Promise of the Holy Spirit. This promise belongs as much to us as it did to them, and yet how rarely it is presented before the people, and its reception spoken of in the church. In consequence of this silence upon this most important theme, what promise do we know less about by its practical fulfillment than this rich promise of the gift of the Holy Spirit, whereby efficiency is to be given to all our spiritual labor?

     The Promise of the Holy Spirit is casually brought into our discourses, is incidentally touched upon, and that is all. Prophecies have been dwelt upon, doctrines have been expounded; but that which is essential to the church in order that they may grow in spiritual strength and efficiency, in order that the preaching may carry conviction with it, and souls be converted to God, has been largely left out of ministerial effort. This subject has been set aside, as if some time in the future would be given to its consideration. Other blessings and privileges have been presented before the people until a desire has been awakened in the church for the attainment of the Blessing promised of God . . .      But the impression concerning the Holy Spirit has been that this gift is not for the church now, but that at some time in the future it would be necessary for the church to receive it.  {TM 174.1}

All Other Blessings Found in One . . .

This promised Blessing, if claimed by faith (Galatians 3:14), would bring all other blessings in its train, and it is to be given liberally to the people of God. Through the cunning devices of the enemy the minds of God’s people seem to be incapable of comprehending and appropriating the promises of God. They seem to think that only the scantiest showers of grace are to fall upon the thirsty soul.      The people of God have accustomed themselves to think that they must rely upon their own efforts, that little help is to be received from heaven; and the result is that they have little Light to communicate to other souls who are dying in error and darkness.

The church has long been contented with little of the Blessing (Spirit-filled promises, John 6:63) of God; they have not felt the need of reaching up to the exalted privileges purchased for them at infinite cost. Their spiritual strength has been feeble, their experience of a dwarfed and crippled character, and they are disqualified for the work the Lord would have them to do (Mark 16:15-20). They are not able to present the great and glorious Truths (unfailing verity) of God’s Holy Word that would convict and convert souls through the agency of the Holy Spirit.

The power of God awaits their demand and reception. A harvest of joy will be reaped by those who sow the holy seeds of Truth. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him !” – Testimonies to Ministers, p.174

An Undivided Heart ?

The powerful testimony of a woman in search of God –

Are we merely content with a “form of godliness,” and yet do not see the power thereof in our own lives?   As we hear those words echoed Today, which were asked of the multitudes who followed our Lord and Saviour, saying . . . . “Master, what must we do, so that we also might work the works of God?”   John 6:28

And to all, the answer has remained the same . . . .”My son, My daughter, give Me thine heart . . . !”   Proverbs 23:26   Are we truly willing to obtain by experience that one thing which is absolutely necessary to gain entrance to the Kingdom of God . . . to be begotten again through union with Him ?

It is our prayer that this woman’s testimony will both encourage and be a blessing to all that hear.   May our LORD and Saviour both bless and keep you !

Our Trial by Fire ?

The Path (Way) of Life ?

bethesda     “My son, My daughter . . . . attend to My Words, yea, incline thine ear to My sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes, keep them in the midst of thine heart . . . For they are Life unto those that find them (John 6:63), and health to all their flesh !”
– Proverbs 4:20-22

“The Saviour in His miracles revealed the power that is continually at work in man’s behalf, to sustain and to heal him . . . Sickness, suffering, and death are work of an antagonistic power. Satan is the destroyer; but God is (our) the Restorer . . . !

The Words spoken to Israel are true today of those who recover health of body or health of soul. “I Am the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) that healeth thee !” Exodus 15:26.

The desire of God for every human being is expressed in the Words, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 2.  He it is Whoforgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with loving-kindness and tender mercies !” Psalm 103:3-4

When Christ healed disease, He warned many of the afflicted ones, “Sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.” John 5:14. Thus He taught that they had brought disease upon themselves by transgressing the laws of God (Theos – Deity, divinity), and that health could be preserved only by obedience.

The physician should teach his patients that they are to cooperate with God in the work of restoration. The physician has a continually increasing realization of the fact that disease is the result of sin. He knows that the laws of nature, as truly as the precepts of the Decalogue, are divine, and that only in obedience to them can health be recovered or preserved. He sees many suffering as the result of hurtful practices who might be restored to health if they would do what they might for their own restoration. They need to be taught that every practice which destroys the physical, mental, or spiritual energies is sin, and that health is to be secured through obedience to the laws fruits-veggies-3that God has established for the good of all mankind.

When a physician sees a patient suffering from disease caused by improper eating and drinking or other wrong habits, yet neglects to tell him of this, he is doing his fellow being an injury. Drunkards, maniacs, those who are given over to licentiousness* (immoral thoughts and practices), all appeal to the physician to declare clearly and distinctly that suffering results from sin. Those who understand the principles of life should be in earnest in striving to counteract the causes of disease. Seeing the continual conflict with pain, laboring constantly to alleviate suffering, how can the physician hold his peace? Is he benevolent and merciful if he does not teach strict temperance as a remedy for disease?fruits-vegetables-fresh-2

Let it be made plain that the way (path) of God’s commandments is the Way of Life. God has established the laws of nature, but His laws are not arbitrary exactions. Every “Thou shalt not,” whether in physical or in moral law, implies a promise. If we obey it, blessing will attend our steps. God never forces us to do right, but He seeks to save us from the evil and lead us to the good.

Let attention be called to the laws that were taught to Israel. God gave them definite instruction in regard to their habits of life. He made known to them the laws relating to both physical and spiritual well-being; and on condition of obedience He assured them . . .

The LORD will take away from thee all sickness.” Deuteronomy 7:15. “Set your hearts unto all the Words which I testify among you this day.” “For they are Life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” Deuteronomy 32:46; Proverbs 4:22.

God desires us to reach the standard of perfection made possible for us by the gift of Christ. He calls upon us to make our choice on the right side, to connect with heavenly agencies, to adopt principles that will restore in us the divine image. In His written Word and in the great book of nature He has revealed the principles of Life. It is our work to obtain a knowledge of these principles, and by obedience to co-operate with Him in restoring health to the body as well as to the soul.

bread-barleynote:
The physical life is to be carefully educated, cultivated, and developed, that through men and women the divine nature may be revealed in its fullness. Both the physical and the mental powers, with the affections, are to be so trained that they can reach the highest efficiency.

That perfection* of character which the Lord requires is the fitting up of the whole being as a temple for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. God will accept of nothing less than the service of the entire human organism.

It is not enough to bring into action certain parts of the living machinery. All parts must work in perfect harmony, or the service will be deficient. It is thus that man is qualified to co-operate with God in representing Christ to the world. Thus God desires to prepare a people to stand before Him pure and holy, that He may introduce them into the society of heavenly angels.

Perfection of character cannot be attained when the laws of nature are disregarded; for this is transgression of the law of God (Theos – deity, divinity). His law is written by His own finger upon every nerve, every muscle, every fiber of our being, upon every faculty which has been intrusted to man. These gifts are bestowed, not to be abused and corrupted, but to be used to His honor and glory in the uplifting of humanity. { Review & Herald, November 12, 1901}

Men need to learn that the blessings of obedience, in their fullness, can be theirs only as they receive the grace* (G5485 = Divine Influence) of Christ. It is His grace that gives man power to obey the laws of God. It is this that enables him to break the bondage of evil habit. This is the only power that can make him and keep him steadfast in the right path . . . !”

Our Wilderness Like Eden . . . !

“For the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) shall comfort Zion . . . Yea, He will comfort all her waste places. He will make her (your) wilderness like Eden, and her deserts (your dry and barren grounds) like the garden of the LORD . . . . Joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody !”     Isaiah 51:1-3

“Then the heathen (unbelievers) that are left round about you ________ (your name) shall know . . . that I the LORD build the ruined places, and I plant that which was desolate . . .   For I the LORD (Jehovah, Yehuwah) have spoken it, and I will do it !”
Ezekiel 36:36

Light vs. darkness & the Word of the Living God ?

Truth_Behind_Secret     Today, there are teachings flooding our world, and even the Christian church, which destroy faith in the Word of God. Our great adversary, the Devil and Satan has come down having great wrath because he knows that he has only a short time remaining. And as our Saviour has warned us, the dragon has opened his mouth, and poured out a flood of mystical counterfeits, in his efforts to destroy faith in the unfailing Word of the Living God !

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try (test) the spirits whether they are of God . . . . because many false prophets (those in-spired by another) are gone out into the world . . . !”
I John 4:1-6

One such teaching which has swept the world like a storm, is that promoted by Oprah Winfrey, called “the law of attraction.”   And this same teaching is now finding it’s way into many Christian circles through similar beliefs, such as the prosperity gospel.

But how are we as children of God to discern between the Truth, and the lies of the great deceiver ? Continue reading

Unquestioning Surrender ?

“And Jesus (Yehushua) went a little further, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying . . . O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me . . . Nevertheless, not My will, but Thine be done !”     Matthew 26:39 & Luke 22:42

“Christ has promised the gift of the Holy Spirit to His church (His children – Acts 7:38) , and the Promise belongs to us as much as to the first disciples.
But like every other promise, it is given on conditions. There are many who believe and profess to claim the Lord’s promise; they talk about Christ and about the Holy Spirit, yet receive no benefit. They do not surrender the soul to be guided and controlled by the divine agencies.

We cannot use the Holy Spirit. The Spirit is to use us. Through the Spirit God works in His people both “to will and to do of His good pleasure.” But many will not submit to this. They want to manage themselves. This is why they do not receive the heavenly Gift. Only to those who wait humbly upon God, who watch for His guidance and grace* (G5485), is the Spirit given. The power of God awaits their demand and reception. This promised Blessing (Galatians 3:14), claimed by faith, brings all other blessings in its train. It is given according to the riches of the grace of Christ, and He is ready to supply every soul according to the capacity to receive.”     –The Desire of Ages, p. 672.  & Christian Service, p.253

The great outpouring of the Spirit of God, which lightens the whole earth with His glory, will not come until we have an enlightened people, that know by experience what it means to be laborers together with God (Philippians 2:13 & Colossians 1:27). When we have entire, wholehearted consecration to the service of Christ, God will recognize the fact by an outpouring of His Spirit without measure; but this will not be while the largest portion of the church are not laborers together with God.”      –Review and Herald, July 21, 1896.  {ChS 253.2}

I have set before thee an Open Door – part.2

PilgrimOur Great Treasure House The Promises of God’s Word !

“I Am the door . . . by Me (the Word of God), if any man enter in, he shall be saved (delivered, rescued, set free, healed and made whole) ! . . . and shall go in and out, and find pasture . . . !”
John 10:9-11 and ref: Psalm 23:1-6 & Psalm 34:8-15

We are pilgrims and strangers on this earth, looking for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. The path in which we travel is narrow, and calls for the exercise of self-denial and sacrifice, but God has not left us without help. He has filled His Word with wonderful promises, to strengthen and cheer His children. In these promises He draws back the veil from eternity, and gives us glimpses of the far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory that awaits the overcomer.

God has set before thee, an Open Door ! – part.1

open door 1Behold, I have set before thee an open door . . . and no man can shut it !”   Revelation 3:7-9

Faith . . . reaches out to grasp the hand of Christ, knowing that He will hold more firmly than it is possible for the human hand to hold, and that He will never let go. While the human agent is willing to be led, Christ will lead him. . . .

Faith is the very lifeblood of the soul. Its presence gives warmth, health, consistency, and sound judgment. Its vitality and vigor exert a powerful though unconscious influence. The life of Christ in the soul is as a well of water, springing up unto everlasting life. It leads to a constant cultivation of the heavenly graces and to a kindly submission in all things to the Lord. It enables us to reveal that Christ is abiding in the soul. . . .

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1). Have we not proved this in the past as we have moved out in faith to produce the things now seen? . . . Faith is not only to look forward to things unseen; it is to be confirmed by looking at past experience, at tangible results, the verification of God’s Word. . . . Pray, “Lord, increase my faith.” Faith quickens the senses to work diligently to produce results. Faith elevates and ennobles the powers of the soul, enabling it to lay hold upon the unseen. . . .

Entanglements in secular business are sometimes permitted by God to stir the sluggish faculties to more than common action, that He may honor faith by the bestowal of rich blessings. This is a means of advancing His work. But those who are without faith will never learn. By unbelief they dishonor their Lord. Unless they are converted, they will make shipwreck of their faith.

He desires His people, even in the darkest shadow, to trust in Him.

Satan is permitted to throw his shadow across their pathway that their dormant faith may be aroused to pierce the cloud, and find light and courage and life beyond. . . . Praise God that He loves us that much !

Looking unto Jesus, not only as our Example, but as the Author and Finisher of our faith, let us go forward, having confidence that He will supply us with all the strength that is needed for every duty. Eternal life is presented to us. Let us do all in our power to gain it.

3ABN – The Story of a Miracle !

“Now unto Him Who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that you can ask or imagine . . . . unto Him be glory !”   Ephesians 3:20

“But without faith, it is impossible to please God: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is (I Am), and that He is a Rewarder of all those who diligently seek Him . . . . and faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God !”     Hebrews 11:1-6 & Romans 10:17

Do not give up, do not give place to doubt . . . . Press your case to the throne of Grace. For God is faithful, and He will not lie, nor let you down. He waits to answer at times, only because of His great desire to see us exercise the faith which He has given to every child. He withholds His blessing in order that we will stretch our faith that it may grow stronger, and that He may reveal His power and love for us, in ever greater measure, than we have seen before !

Search for His Promises which are specific to your needs. God has promised you, “he that believeth on Me, shall not be put to shame (I will not let you down) !”   Romans 10:8-13
